As someone who loves clothes and has a lot of them, being a fashion editor is a dream job. However, it has made me a chronic over-packer when I travel. I used to pack multiple outfits for each day of my trip and end up lugging around a heavy bag. But I realized that my packing habits needed to change. I challenged myself to pack for a trip with just a carry-on.
To achieve this, I needed a strategy that allowed me to pack light without sacrificing style. I developed a mini capsule wardrobe formula that would work for every trip. This formula involves selecting versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched in different ways to create various outfits. The goal is to have a concise, curated set of clothes that can take you anywhere you need to go when you travel.
Following this formula has enabled me to replace my checked bags with just a carry-on, and if I can do it, anyone can.
The formula
When packing my carry-on, I carefully follow this formula to create a mini capsule wardrobe that works for all aspects of my trip. Before choosing what to pack, I consider the activities I’ll be doing and the expected temperatures, selecting pieces that suit my planned activities and the climate.
